The Technical Apprentice Program is an immersive, introduction to the world of professional theatre designed for current college students or recent high school graduates with limited experience.  The program challenges you to look at theatre in new and meaningful ways. Students in the apprentice program will spend the summer living, breathing, and creating theatre while working alongside production interns and professional staff on the Hangar’s shows.  In addition to the hands-on training, apprentices will receive feedback about their work and Master classes throughout the summer from members of the professional staff as well as other guests. Apprentices have returned in subsequent summers as interns and/or technical staff members. Apprenticeships run early June through early/mid August.

Apprenticeships are tuition free but apprentices are responsible for their own daily living expenses and will be charged a fee for housing.

Four design interns will spend the summer designing 8 shows (KIDDSTUFF and Wedge productions), assisting on Mainstage shows, and mentoring the design apprentices. They will work with the four Drama League Directors who are chosen to spend the summer at the Hangar leading the Hangar Lab Company. This intense summer will help prepare young designers for the rigors of the real world.  This summer design training program was created to provide emerging designers the time, space, and resources to practice as a designer.  Fellows will also assist in the training of the design apprentices, who will serve as assistant designers.
