Audition Dates Set for 2008 Season
ITHACA, NY--The Hangar’s season opens on June 4 with the regional premiere of The Overwhelming, by J.T. Rogers. The Overwhelming runs until June 14 and will be directed by the Hangar’s interim artistic director, Robert Moss. Following this regional premier will be the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic, Oklahoma! This musical will be directed and choreographed by Dan Knechtges, who brought Hangar audiences The Wiz and Cats. Oklahoma! will run from June 19 through July 5. Next in the Hangar’s season will be two one-person plays directed by the Hangar’s associate artistic director, Wendy Dann: No Child…by Nilaja Sun and Bad Dates by Theresa Rebeck. No Child… opens on July 9 and closes July 19; Bad Dates will open on July 18 and close July 26. Following will be the Irish comedy classic, Playboy of the Western World, by J. M. Synge and directed by Robert Moss. This comedic masterpiece will run from July 30 through August 9. Finally, the season will wrap up with John Cameron Mitchell and Steven Trask’s rock musical, Hedwig and the Angry Inch. This off-Broadway hit will be directed by Michael Donald Edwards and will run from August 19 through August 30.
Non-musical auditions will be held on Saturday, February 2 at Ithaca High School, Kulp Auditorium. Musical auditions will be held the following day, Sunday, February 3, in the same location. Actors who wish to be considered for both should attend only the musical call. Please call 607-273-8588 x440 after January 21 on Monday or Wednesday between 10am and 1pm to arrange an audition time. Or if you would prefer, arrive at 10am on the audition day to schedule a time. Please be available later in the day for callbacks. Please prepare a one minute monologue for non-musical auditions, or a one-minute monolog and 16 bars of a Rogers and Hammerstein song for musical auditions. Bring sheet music and a current headshot and resumé with you to the audition.
The Hangar is a small professional theatre that casts both Equity and non-Equity actors. Auditions are open to adult actors (college-age and above) who can provide their own residence in Ithaca this summer.
