The Hangar Theatre is a professional regional theatre situated on Cayuga Lake in Ithaca, New York. Nationally acclaimed actors, directors and designers come to work at the Hangar Theatre, which produces a summer season from June through August and offers a wide variety of educational programs throughout the year.

During the summer, the Hangar produces five Mainstage shows consisting of a blend of classic and contemporary works. In addition, the Lab Company, a summer repertory training program, attracts talented young professionals throughout the United States, who produce KIDDSTUFF, a children's theatre series on the Mainstage, as well as a season of one-acts in the Wedge. Throughout the year, the Hangar offers an extensive Education program.

Internships at the Hangar are designed to give creative and ambitious individuals who are interested in theatre the opportunity to work directly with professional theatre artists. Many Hangar interns have gone on to work professionally at nationally and internationally renowned theatre institutions. Most administrative internships are offered year-round, and production internships are offered during the summer. College credit may be available. A limited number of scholarships for stipends and housing is available. Internships also qualify for federal work-study programs at Cornell University and Ithaca College during the academic year.

Assistant to the Associate Artistic Director (fall, winter, spring, and summer)
Reports to the Associate Artistic Director. Provides administrative support on all artistic programs, including written, phone, and email correspondence with theatre artists. Assists with casting of shows. Updates artistic calendar and assistance with special projects as needed. Manages play submission database and coordinates reading of submissions and response to playwrights. Must have a strong interest in theatre and artistic management. Excellent communication skills necessary, both written and verbal.

Literary Assistant (fall, winter, spring and summer)
Reports to the Artistic Director and the Associate Artistic Director. Provides administrative support for all play development programs, including written, phone, and email correspondence with playwrights. Assists with administrating Lab Company New Play Festival by assembling committees, receiving plays, composing letters, etc. Maintains literary databases. Solicits manuscripts from promising playwrights. Must have strong interest in theatre and literary management. Excellent communication skills necessary, both written and verbal.

Education Assistant (fall, winter, spring and summer)
Reports to the Education Coordinator. Provides administrative support for all education programming including School Tour study guides, the Production Apprentice Program, and Next Generation, Provides office support with typing documents, creating summaries of evaluations, phone calls, photocopying materials, and mailings. Excellent communication and research skills necessary.

Assistant to the Executive Director (fall, winter, spring and summer)
Reports to the Executive Director. Responsibilities include assisting in the management of Board, Community, and Staff relations and assisting with the development of policies and procedures for all aspects of operations including: strategic planning; budget and fiscal management; contract negotiations; annual and capital fundraising; marketing and community relations; personnel; artistic and educational programming; and board development.

Assistant to the Operations Manager (fall, winter, spring, and summer)
Reports to the Operations Manager. Provides administrative support in company management, facilities, and office management. Assists with arranging artist travel, housing, manages office supply inventory, and maintains company contact sheets. Candidates must have a strong interest in theatre and arts management. Excellent organizational and communication skills necessary.

Company Management Intern (summer)
Assists Company Management team with housing, transportation, and hospitality needs for company. Duties include, but are not limited to, special events, maintenance of company vehicles, mail distribution, and daily company needs for nearly 125 professionals. Candidates must be motivated, detail-oriented and able to multi-task in a busy work environment. Must have a valid clean driver's license. Position runs May 2007- early September 2007

Development Intern (fall, winter, spring, and summer)
Assists Development Director and Development Associate in fund-raising activities of the theatre. Tasks to include prospect and foundation research, data entry and management in Raiser's Edge (training provided), event planning and support, raffle and/or other short-term fund-raising program management, writing and/or proof reading of proposals, correspondence, reports. Participates in sponsor stewardship, meeting support. Candidates should have excellent communication skills, excellent attention to detail and high level organizational skills.

Marketing Assistant (fall, winter, spring and summer)
The Hangar Theatre is a professional regional theatre that produces five Mainstage plays each summer. The Hangar also conducts the Lab Company, an education program for young professional actors from across the country, and KIDDSTUFF, a series of fully produced plays performed for young people. The Hangar is interested in applicants that can begin working at the theatre as soon as possible to help us prepare for the crazy, hectic, fun and entertaining summer season. Below is a very brief description of the position. Please note: this is a position in which the intern will be fully involved in the processes within the department, and is perfect for a student interested in learning and growing professionally. RESPONSIBLE TO: Marketing Manager
HOURS: 8-15 hours/week during school year with a possible 30-40 hours during the summer.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Working closely with the Marketing Manager, assist with marketing and public relations functions of the theatre. Assignments primarily in the areas of Publications, Publicity, Media Relations, and Marketing. Other duties as assigned to serve interns' goals and theatre's needs.
DUTIES: Assist marketing manager in implementing marketing plan (this includes print, radio, TV advertising, design and distribution of direct marketing pieces, design of programs and posters for plays, publicity, and much more), work on market research, and other duties.
Publications: Working closely with the Marketing Manager, coordinate the Hangar Playbill, including gathering and tracking components, drafting and/or editing copy, and overseeing project through production and distribution phase. Coordinate KIDDSTUFF program production and/or other publications deemed appropriate.
Publicity: Draft, revise and/or edit press releases; distribute and track publicity received in newspaper, radio and television. Prepare and distribute press packages. Responsible for the press book.
Media Relations: Assist with implementation of promotions including radio and television ticket giveaways; conduct research related to new media outlets for the theatre.
Marketing: Assist in development of Marketing Plan by reviewing available data, assessing current markets and best reach, and reviewing best practice in theatres of similar size and scope.
QUALIFICATIONS: Proficient in Excel, Word, and basic office software. Excellent writing skills (experience or classes in media writing/PR a plus). Knowledge of desktop publishing (InDesign, PhotoShop, etc.) helpful. *As this is an internship, we are able to work with an applicant that does not meet all qualifications listed above but does show an aptitude for learning quickly and a strong interest in the field.

Illustrator/Graphic Design Assistant (fall, winter, spring and summer)

The Hangar Theatre is a professional regional theatre that produces five Mainstage plays each summer. The Hangar also conducts the Lab Company, an intensive summer program for emerging professionals who are selected via a competitive national search. The Lab Company produces eight productions in the Wedge.

The Hangar Theatre is seeking an Artworker/Graphic Design intern to design artwork for each of the eight summer productions in The Hangar's Wedge season. This individual will work under the direction of our artistic team to ensure consistency with Mainstage and KIDDSTUFF artwork. A high level of skill in the basic graphic design software products, such as Photoshop, Illustrator, and Indesign is required. Please note in your cover letter whether you have the ability to work from home. This is an unpaid part-time internship for 20-30 hours a week for 3 months.
