at Hangar Theatre
The Hangar's "production teems with insight." Stephanie Yankwitt leads "a stellar ensemble cast" with "masterful direction". Clybourne Park presents "the most powerful of theatrical fireworks that have landed at the Hangar in recent memory." "The conversation, though not always pleasant, couldn't be any more urgent."
- Luke Z. Fenchel, Ithaca Times
“Ithacans are fortunate to be able to see its regional premiere at the Hangar Theatre.” “This smart, layered satire” is performed by a “talented cast” and contains “fast-paced, clever dialogue.” “Jesse Bush is splendid … His is a tour-de-force performance in an entertainingly provocative play.” – Barbara Adams, Ithaca Journal
"Bristling with humor and provocative ideas, Hangar's season finale explains why Clybourne Park has been one of the most talked-about stage works of the past two years."
- James MacKillop, Syracuse New Times
"Clybourne Park, sharply staged at the Hangar, provocatively poses and reposes the conundrum of race in America." "In the Hangar production, director Stephanie Yankwitt and the fine acting ensemble come off very well indeed."
- Leonard Fonte, The Post-Standard
Pulitzer Prize winner Bruce Norris has written a cutting-edge, wickedly funny satire that digs into the heart of race and real estate in the suburbs of Chicago. Inspired by historical events, the play begins in 1959 when a white couple sells their home to the neighborhood's first black family, and thus sparks controversy. Fifty years later, the house is again changing hands, this time to a young white couple moving into the now black community. In a provocative salute to Lorraine Hansberry's classic piece A Raisin in the Sun, this 2012 Tony Award winner for Best New Play now makes its regional premiere.
THIS PRODUCTION CONTAINS ADULT SITUATIONS INCLUDING THE USE OF PROFANITY, MATURE LANGUAGE, AND ADULT THEMES.
