Taking the Stage
ages 8 - 11

In this class we will work on building the foundation of your actor’s tool set. Students will take part in acting and improvising games that help develop imagination, creativity, and articulation. We will explore how to use our voices and bodies to transform into different characters and then dive into some scene work. At the end of the course, we will give an in-class performance to show off our work! Offered in collaboration with the Hangar Theatre.

Essence of Character
16 - adult

How can an actor embody and portray a character – even one they can’t relate to? Explore how movement can influence your embodiment of a character in a psychologically and emotionally sustainable way. Focusing on the movement-based exercises developed by acting instructors Anne Bogart, Jean Sabatine, and Tadashi Suzuki, this class will help you to discover an internal to external flow of energy. These exercises use the essence of energy, rhythm, and even animals to generate a physical power, strong body, and active imagination. Leap over psychological hang-ups and create an organic, original character using motion and energy. Offered in collaboration with the Hangar Theatre.
Clothing: yoga/sweat pants or other clothing that is easy to move around in.

8 Weeks (2/11/17-4/1/17)
Saturdays, 2-4pm
CSMA Member Fee: $160
CSMA Non-Member Fee: $214
