Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol

A Carol of Our Own

This December, the Hangar Theatre will present Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol in a new adaptation by playwright and longtime Ithaca resident Aoise Stratford.

"We expect this show to become a favorite that people will look forward to every year."

2017 is a year of great growth for the Hangar Theatre. We have expanded our summer programming to include a fifth mainstage show, we continue to present Hangar-produced programming year-round, and we are thrilled to establish a new holiday tradition in the Finger Lakes.

Expanding our summer season and presenting A Christmas Carol have been part of the Hangar’s strategic plan set in place by our board and staff in 2013. “We are so excited to bring this project to fruition—it’s been a long time coming,” says Managing Director Josh Friedman. “We expect this show to become a favorite that people will look forward to every year.”

The Hangar looks forward to serving the local community and patrons across the Southern Tier. We are creating our production of A Christmas Carol to establish it as a permanent annual event and a major tourism asset. Theatres across the country have been producing various versions of A Christmas Carol since the birth of the regional theatre movement.

Designers have already begun their work on this production, and the set for the show will be complete by the end of the summer. We will offer student matinees of A Christmas Carol and a corresponding study guide for students and teachers to continue the experience in the classroom. Tickets will go on sale in July. We hope you will join us for this magical show in its inaugural year.
